MOT Classes
Class 4
Cars and other qualifying passenger vehicles.
Class 7
Goods vehicles over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg design gross weight.
We do not offer motorcycle MOT testing.

Class 4 MOT
Class 4 covers most passenger cars and a range of other vehicles, including many smaller vans and dual-purpose vehicles.
Our Class 4 MOT price is £54.85.
Electric and hybrid cars within Class 4 can also be MOT tested at our Kidlington workshop.
Class 7 MOT
Class 7 applies to goods vehicles with a design gross weight over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg.
This includes many larger vans and commercial vehicles used by builders, plumbers, electricians and other local trades.

What’s checked at an MOT
An MOT covers DVSA-regulated safety and emissions checks including:
- Axles, wheels, tyres and suspension
- Body, structure and attachments (including exhaust system, seats and doors)
- Steering
- Brakes
- Brake fluid contamination
- Brake pads warning light
- Fuel system
- Exhaust emissions
- Diesel particulate filter (DPF) for tampering
- Fluid leaks other than coolant and Adblue
- Lights, battery and electrical wiring
- Daytime running lights
- Reversing lights
- Horn
- Number plates
- Seatbelts
- Speedometer
- Visibility (wipers, windscreen, mirrors)
The engine, clutch and gearbox are not tested. The full details of the MOT test are on GOV.UK.
Pre-MOT checks
The MOT test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards.
Spending just a few minutes carrying out some pre-MOT checks on the interior and exterior of your car could also save you the additional costs of unnecessary repairs, as well as the extra time lost.
30% of all MOT faults relate to lighting and signalling
- Tyres must have sufficient tread depth, which is minimum 1.6mm
- Tyres must be inflated to the correct pressures
- All lights must be in correct working order
- Windscreen free of major damage
- Windscreen wipers, front and rear, must operate correctly and not be damaged
- Wiper fluid container should not be empty
When is My MOT Due?
If you are unsure when your MOT expires, you can check your vehicle’s MOT status and history using the government MOT checking service.
You can also contact JS Motors Oxford with your vehicle registration if you need help checking the MOT status of your vehicle.
If Your Vehicle Fails its MOT
If faults are identified during the MOT, JS Motors Oxford can advise on the repairs required.
Our workshop carries out general mechanical repairs including brakes, tyres, suspension, exhausts, lighting and other MOT-related work.
If your annual service is also due, speak to us about arranging your service and MOT during the same visit.
